Studio Elke

For over a decade, Studio Elke has been an industry leader in the design and craft worlds, heralded for boundary-pushing originality.

Originally known for it's highly coveted jewellery collections, Studio Elke has recently expanded to encompass object design that spans a range of scales - from ceramic interior objects, through to carpeting, and spatial design.

Rather than following trends in the market, Elke Kramer’s design approach is always an exploration of adventurous materials, experimental finishes and new silhouettes.

Since moving from Sydney to Braidwood in rural NSW in 2024, she began studying under master potter Ian Jones, a contemporary wood-firer, who fires "anagama" style tube kilns since finishing the construction of a 12m long kiln in the mid-1980's.

Kramer has embraced the experimentalism, ethics and sustainability of Jones's practice, the natural ash glazed surfaces and use of his innovative 'fish and chip oil kiln' which uses waste oil for fuel and incorporates salt into the atmosphere. The results are highly textured, flashed and stippled, with unexpected kisses of colour.
