RedPeg

Hello, I'm Gabrielle McGrath.
Welcome to RedPeg Eco Studio.
My passion and focus for a long time was steel construction based sculpture - which I exhibited regionally and nationally for about 10 years after graduating from The National Art School (ESTC) in Sydney.
Jewellery and body adornment has always been a great love, so its no great surprise I find myself here, as a jewellery artist.
Having never gained any formal training in Jewellery design and with my metal smithing sculptural background, some may say I have and unconventional and unorthodox approach to working with precious metals.
My work is made with a sculptors eye, hand and thought process and therefor aesthetically are more of an artwork, constructed in the same fashion as a much larger piece.
To me, my jewellery designs are essentially mini sculptures.
My jewellery and wearble art is handcrafted with an uncontrived aesthetic, where I find form through texture and pattern and let the materials inherent nature shine through. Working with it, rather than against it.
Its not uncommon for people to stand outside my shopfront studio and watch while I bang and tap and hammer away, forging the material into shape. It can sometimes get very noisy. Far removed from the glitzy brightly lit showroom of most modern jewellery shops.
